There are only three things that matter to twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn't miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him. But it's been almost three years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she's about to embark on one to find the other. But bringing Father home is no small matter. In order to find him she'll have to travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. Her only companion is a boy named Oliver whose own magical ability is based in lies and deceit--and with a liar by her side in a land where nothing is as it seems, it will take all of Alice's wits (and every limb she's got) to find Father and return home to Ferenwood in one piece. On her quest to find Father, Alice must first find herself--and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of loss.

If you only knew my reaction to when this book was presented to me in Boston. I was flipping between smiling, laughing, crying. Let me just say that I went from a calm 23 yr. old to an emotional wreck in a matter of 15 seconds. Tahereh Mafi is amazing before this book and words do her no justice after reading Furthermore.

We follow Alice Alexis Queensmeadow as she is about to go on an adventure to find her father. Traveling into the world of Furthermore where things are not exactly as they turn out to be and danger is lurking around every corner, Alice must put her trust in a boy, Oliver, who has secrets of his own. Sometimes love is the strongest force but one must not forget that in times of loss.

This book was beyond magical. The story flowed, the plot had me hooked and the characters took me along on their adventure and kept me on my toes and awake past my bedtime. I felt Furthermore is a story you tell kid before they go to bed and it is one that will stay with me for a while.

Alice is a character that you have to sit back and allow her to make mistakes so that she can grow. Even though there are some choices that make me hold my breath and hope for the best, I loved Alice. She goes through so much but you can tell that she will do anything she can to find her dad and bring him home.

Overall I need the next book. Tahereh writes a compelling book that will hook you from the start. I consider myself one lucky person to be able to have gotten an early copy. I encourage you to check out this series because it will be one to leave a lasting mark.

I give this book 5 souls!
