Blackbeard the pirate was known for striking fear in the hearts of the bravest of sailors. But once he was just a young man who dreamed of leaving his rigid life behind to chase adventure in faraway lands. Nothing could stop him—until he met the one girl who would change everything. Edward "Teach" Drummond, son of one of Bristol's richest merchants, has just returned from a year-long journey on the high seas to find his life in shambles. Betrothed to a girl he doesn’t love and sick of the high society he was born into, Teach dreams only of returning to the vast ocean he’d begun to call home. There's just one problem: convincing his father to let him leave and never come back. Following her parents' deaths, Anne Barrett is left penniless and soon to be homeless. Though she’s barely worked a day in her life, Anne is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of Master Drummond. Lonely days stretch into weeks, and Anne longs for escape. How will she ever realize her dream of sailing to Curaçao—where her mother was born—when she's stuck in England? From the moment Teach and Anne meet, they set the world ablaze. Drawn to each other, they’re trapped by society and their own circumstances. Faced with an impossible choice, they must decide to chase their dreams and go, or follow their hearts and stay.

It had been months since this book first hit the shelves but it was weeks before the release that this was a book I needed to add to my shelves and read the story of Blackbeard and the origin of his name. So after months I have finally cracked open the book and taken the first step in a love story that will leave your heart aching for more.

I feel I have to add this add as a side note but I am a sucker for stories told through multiple perspectives. I do not know what draws me to stories such as these but I am beyond amazed how authors not just have to go into a mind of one character but a second one at that. Haha I know random but I think an author who can pull this off is beyond incredible. By the way Nicole was successful in this!

In the story we go along with Anne, who after her parents pass goes to work as a maid for a Master of ships but all she dreams of is finding an escape. In comes Teach. Son of the master who Anne works for and the one reason she may change her plans and stay. But things are still complicated especially if one is engaged to another in hopes of settling on a business deal. Annes and Teach's relationship was not a perfect start, there was no instant love but a slow growing love that grew with every new chapter.

I was kind of thinking one thing might happen giving the relationship between Anne and Teach a whole other level of complicated but it wasn't something I thought could happen. The last few chapters were an emotional whirlwind. Tissues might be need to be a requirement for this read. I know I needed them by the time I was done.

Overall, Nicole Castroman brings a new level to retellings with this intricately woven of Blackbeard. If you are like me and have put this book aside, now is the perfect time to read it. This story will take you on an adventure on what love can do to a person.

I give this book 5 souls!
