With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his new master, Prince Laurent, must exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow…

I was excited to read this series. I have to say that this was going to be my first male and male romance that I have possibly ever read. However, if that is what you are wanting and are expecting, hold on because you wait a while before we get the juiciness and by waiting I mean the last fifty pages waiting. I know, but just wait until you hear about everything else before giving up!

Damen is still forced to hide his identity from his captor, Prince Laurent, and thinking it might be easier until the news of war and him going on an adventure to the border to stop things going from bad to worse. However, his feelings deepen for Laurent and the truth becomes more and more evident.

Like I mentioned above there is not much male on male romance. However, there is a bunch of other elements to make up for it. With the adventure, the action and the deceit maybe this book is not meant to be all romance. Pacat does a marvelous job in dropping every so often these teasing moments of romance that keep you hooked and hoping only for more that when you get what you have been waiting for, your expectations are meant and the room gets a little hot.

Damen and Laurent's relationship has grown so much from the first book and the idea of  full fledged romance happening is becoming more and more of a reality...well until shit hits the fan. But I will let you read to find out what happens.

Overall Prince's Gambit is exactly the middle book that readers can only hope of getting when reading a trilogy. I walked in hoping this to be the slow point in the trilogy but came out with so much more. I am excited to finish this trilogy and see what happens with Damen and Laurent. Pacat writes a stellar second installment that keeps the reader on their toes and a hot feeling all around.

I give this book 4 souls!
